Doing the Dukan

And So It Starts Again ....

Start weight:  208.5
Weight on Day 8:  197
Loss so far: 11.5 lbs

I hate being fat.

According to the BMI scales I am clinically obese.  For someone who enjoys sports as much as I do, being fat just doesn't make sense.  Simply put though, I seem to enjoy eating, more than I enjoy being active.  I enjoy eating crap more than I enjoy eating healthily.  Over time this adds up to being fat.  Over time this adds up to really bad knees with arthritis.  Over time this will add up to a lack of mobility and a lack of mobility will mean I won't be able to do much.  Not being able to do much will simply suck.

I'm now fifty years old.  I'm officially menopausal.  It's time to try again.  This time I'm going on the Dukan diet.  Unless I try to do something, nothing will change.  I've tried the healthy eating option, but to be honest, I stray too easily.  I've tried Weight Watchers and lost 30 lbs last year and then slowly put 20 lbs back on once I stopped tracking.

So I start again, since nothing will change unless I change it.

My friend Andrea told me about the Dukan Diet.  Her weight issues mirror mine, she was about to travel with a group of friends to Jamaica and needed to lose some weight.  She managed to lose 18 lbs in 3 weeks!  She and I both know that a bunch of that was water weight, but she at least felt OK travelling.

At the end of February, my husband John and I traveled to Exuma, Bahamas, where we planned to scuba dive and play golf each day.  Unfortunately I couldn't manage both in the same day, though we did try.  It was simply too exhausting, mainly because I had to haul so much weight around.

I stated the Dukan Diet the day I got back.

I'm finding the diet surprisingly easy to follow.  I'm on my last day of the Attack Phase, which I've done for 8 days.  Why 8 days?  No reason other than you shouldn't exceed 10 days and I have to go out for dinner tomorrow night, which means I can look somewhat normal eating veggies and meat, rather than just meat.

I've lost a lot of weight quickly and really haven't experienced the side effects that usually follow an all protein diet.  In fact I'm in a rather zen state of comfort - enjoying the weight loss, but knowing that it should start to even off at around 2 lbs a week.  I'm OK with that.

I've read a lot of blogs that people have started about their Dukan Diet experiences.  I like the accountability, thus I've chosen to revive this blog.  Let's see where it all goes!
